Good bye from this website

by Paul Collins on 10 June, 2014

Two weeks after the election and I am enjoying my enforced semi-retirement from local politics. I am genuinely upset for those who wanted to me to succeed, but unfortunately, the electorate democratically choose others and I have no choice but to accept it. Donna has already said how much more relaxed I am looking, something I had not noticed myself, so I am grateful that maybe this is for the best. To be an effective Councillor, it is challenging to hold down a job in the City, working long hours, travelling nearly three hours a day, and then straight into evening meetings straight of the train, this must eventually tell.

The Echo called me to ask what I was going to do for the future and I was pleased to say that I will be re-applying for a Community Governors role at Heycroft School, a position I held until I was forced to give it up in November, as an elected Councillor may not do both roles. Also there are some charity matters that I want to look after, PSF UK is still a charity that is close to the Collins family and I want to do more to raise the profile and funds. Of course, and not least, spending more time with my wonderful family, who keep me grounded and focused on what is really important.

I am not finished with local community work and I am delighted to have been asked to renew my Westborough Community Association membership, which I have accepted, so I will still keep an eye on all matters Westborough.

Lastly, this website will eventually close and if you want to keep in touch with my activity, my Facebook group page will remain open, link here:!/Collins4Westborough

Thank you to all those that have helped me in the last four years, certainly it was worth it, as I truly believe that Westborough has been improved in that time. I have been proud to have been your Councillor, but there is certainly a lot more to do….over to my successors…
